The Scope of Music Therapy Practice (2015) broadly defines the range of responsibilities of a fully qualified music therapy professional with requisite education, clinical training, and board certification. Created and approved by AMTA & CBMT, this document considers the contributions, interrelationships, and interdependencies of the CBMT Scope of Practice (2010) & Code of Professional Practice, as well as the AMTA Standards of Clinical Practice, Professional Competencies, & Code of Ethics.

The Wilson Trust Music Therapy Project, a project of the American Music Therapy Association, is pleased to announce the awarding of a $40,000 grant to the Snohomish County Music Project to increase music therapy services for vulnerable populations.

The AMTA office will close at noon on December 22, 2014 and reopen after the new year on January 5, 2015. In order to process your AMTA product/publication order in a timely fashion, please be advised that any December order must be received no later than Friday, December 19th, 12 noon EST. Orders placed after that time will be filled immediately upon our return beginning on January 5, 2015.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is seeking qualified individuals to serve on an Advisory Board for the Multi-State Plan (MSP) Program. The purpose of the Advisory Board is to exchange information, ideas, and recommendations regarding OPM’s administration of the MSP Program, including plan design, branding and marketing, network adequacy, and other topics. Representatives may include public health and/or healthcare professionals or members of consumer advocacy groups.

The AMTA Nominating Committee worked this fall to identify potential candidates for the offices of AMTA President Elect and Vice President Elect. The slate was approved in November by the AMTA Board of Directors and presented at the AMTA Business meetings during the annual conference.

AMTA Executive Director Dr. Andi Farbman met with the founder and Executive Director of “Music and Memory,” Dan Cohen, MSW, and Music and Memory Board member, Dr. Connie Tomaino, LCAT, MT-BC, on Friday, November 21, 2014, to discuss ways to differentiate what “Music and Memory” programs provide from what board certified music therapists provide and to clarify the language used to describe staff who are trained to develop personalized music listening programs for elders.
