Valuable information about the music therapy profession can be found in AMTA's annually published AMTA Member Survey and Workforce Analysis, "A Descriptive Statistical Profile of the AMTA Membership." The 2014 edition of this document is now available free of charge for current AMTA members and can be purchased by non-members in the AMTA online bookstore.

“Alive Inside,” the film that portrays personalized music listening for elders in nursing homes, is currently being shown around the country. AMTA has developed a status report and resource to assist our members and others as they deal with the results of this film and organization, including new or increased interest in providing access to music and music therapy as well as some confusion and misunderstanding about the differences between music listening and clinical music therapy.

AMTA announces the launch of self-study e-course "Music Therapy and Military Populations" with opportunity for MT-BCs to earn approved CMTE credits. This AMTA E-course is based on the official 2014 briefing report “Music Therapy and Military Populations: A Status Report and Recommendations on Music Therapy Treatment, Programs, Research, and Practice Policy" developed by AMTA in 2014.

NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young and his wife, Barb, presented a check for $150,000 from their philanthropic organization, the Forever Young Foundation to Sutter Children’s Center, Sacramento for the construction of a state-of-the-art music therapy facility in Sacramento.

As part of The Wilson Trust Music Therapy Project, the American Music Therapy Association is pleased to announce a Program Announcement: Clinician Small Grants. The purpose of this Program Announcement is to improve music therapy service availability and accessibility in the Puget Sound region of Washington. This program provides small grant funding and is open to music therapists residing in the Puget Sound region.

AMTA-member, Professor Ed Roth, MM, MT-BC, of Western Michigan University, presented preliminary information from a pilot fMRI study examining mechanisms for improvisation in children at the recent annual meeting of the APA. His research partner, Dr. Charles Limb, is a renowned otolaryngologist and musician at Johns Hopkins University. The session was sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
