The 2014 Social Media Advocacy Month theme is "We are…" and will center on exploring and honoring the profession of music therapy as a distinct profession, unique from other professions and professionals with which we work. Throughout the month of January, music therapy bloggers and podcasters will be sharing their tips, thoughts, and ideas on advocacy, on being an advocate, and on being a music therapist.​

Did you know that the largest collection of music therapy historical items is located in the archive at Colorado State University? In a secure, humidity and UV controlled environment, materials are sorted and stored for future generations to enjoy. However, we are at risk of losing important pieces of our profession’s history if we do not act now. We are asking you to take action to preserve our past for our future.

On Veterans Day, 2013, the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) honors America’s military and veterans for their service. Music therapy was founded in the U.S. as a profession through service to veterans. Music therapists around the country continue to serve our military, their families, and veterans. Candidates’ Biographical Summaries & Responses to Questions about Elected Positions & the music therapy profession may be found here. Current 2013 Professional, Retired & Honorary Life AMTA members should be prepared to vote as usual via the US Postal Service. Your ballot will be mailed on 11/12/13, so expect to see it in your mailbox within a week of that date. Your completed ballot must be submitted in the official envelope & postmarked on or before 12/12/13. No exceptions will be made.

Information about the music therapy profession can be found in AMTA's annually published AMTA Member Survey and Workforce Analysis, “A Descriptive Statistical Profile of the AMTA Membership,” which contains a detailed, descriptive statistical narrative about demographics, employment, salaries, and other helpful facts.
