Music therapist, Alison Tompkins, MT-BC, was featured on the Today Show on 9/12/13. Her work with an innovative mobile van called “Wings on Wheels” or “WOW,” providing services to children with cancer and those experiencing grief, was highlighted. Alison is an adjunct faculty member at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Ruth Boxberger, 93, passed away on September 8, 2013. AMTA mourns the loss of this Music Therapy Pioneer.

Lisa Gallagher resigned as AMTA Vice President Elect so that she could focus on her health and family. The AMTA Board of Directors wholeheartedly supports her decision and wishes her well. Per the AMTA Bylaws, the Board approved the appointment of Amber Weldon-Stephens to assume the role of Vice President Elect immediately, moving into the role of Vice President on January 1, 2014.

CNN correspondent Elizabeth Landau features the work of music therapists Barb Else, Eric Miller, Rebecca Vaudreuil, and Brian Jantz. It is an interesting and thorough exploration of music therapy from the perspective of an accomplished musician and reporter. Kudos to all involved.
