The American Music Therapy Association is pleased to announce a call for proposals for the 2016-2017 Clinician-Based Grant (CBG). The CBG program supports applied research grants in music therapy with funding up to $5,000.

Recent site visits to grantees reveal significant progress in expanding music therapy services to individuals in the Puget Sound region of Washington. The Wilson Trust Music Therapy project is a program of the American Music Therapy Association.

Congratulations to Dr. Joke Bradt (Drexel University) and her colleagues Dr. Cheryl Dileo (Temple University), Dr. Lucanne Magill (New York University) and Aaron Teague (Drexel University) for the publication of their updated Cochrane review: ‘Music Interventions for improving psychological and physical outcomes in cancer patients’. The update is highlighted as a feature review on the main website of the Cochrane Collaboration (www.cochrane.org).

To support Board Certified Music Therapists' on the topic of crises, disasters, and trauma, AMTA is now offering the newest e-course, "Disaster Response for Music Therapists: Core Principles of Psychological First Aid" free to current AMTA members and non-members from now through the end of the 2016 calendar year.

In a time of mourning, shock, and anger, Team Rainbow is reaching out to the LGBTQ and Ally music therapy community to come together in reflection upon a devastating mass murder. On June 23, 2016, 9:00 pm Eastern time, Team Rainbow will host a video conference open to any music therapist or music therapy student who identifies as LGBTQAI or as an Ally to give voice to our thoughts, listen, and support each other.

Theodore Michael Meyer was a music lover and a student of guitar. Due to a biking accident, Theo suffered from chronic pain throughout most of his 20s. Theo benefited from Music Therapy as part of his treatment and considered going back to school to study Music Therapy to help others. Theo's family hopes that this scholarship will go to a student interested in helping individuals with mental health and/or addiction issues find a path to wellness and inspiration through the joy of music.
