NIH Awards $20 Million to Study Music Therapy & Neuroscience

Research Builds on the Sound Health Initiative, an NIH-Kennedy Center Partnership in Association with the National Endowment for the Arts

The American Music Therapy Association congratulates the investigator teams receiving research awards in response to the Sound Health funding opportunity. Special congratulations go to music therapist, Dr. Sheri Robb, and her team at Indiana University for their award examining dose-response and effects of an Active Music Engagement (AME) intervention on biomarkers among young oncology patients and their parents.

Sound Health is a partnership between the NIH and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in association with the National Endowment for the Arts. The award announcement this week represents another step forward in team science as investigators seek to expand our understanding of music’s mechanism of action from a variety of perspectives. On behalf of the Board Certified Music Therapists serving clients throughout the country and beyond, AMTA extends a heartfelt thank you to the music therapy clinician/scholars and collaborators who contributed to research applications under this funding opportunity.
