AMTA continues to work to address issues and concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic and meet regularly with many groups to establish support for all affected. Please use this list of curated resources and information that may be of help to music therapists, business owners, students and faculty for specific issues. Check back often as new information will be added as it becomes available.

Four MT-BCs at Children’s Minnesota Hospitals talk about music therapy groups for patients with medical/surgical, hematology/oncology, diabetes, eating disorder, and other issues. Erinn Frees, Alicia Little, Sarah Woolever, and Kayla Shafer discuss work facilitating groups for all ages including focus groups for tweens, parents, siblings, and even staff. The text section includes resources and references for successfully including group music therapy in the pediatric medical setting.

The AMTA Board of Directors approved the creation of a COVID-19 (C-19) Task Force to coordinate and support regions, members, music therapists, and students during the healthcare emergency presented by COVID-19. The C-19 Task Force is chaired by Lori Gooding, AMTA President Elect, and includes individuals with a background in trauma informed care, disaster response, healthcare administration, and music therapy private practice.

Please read on for resources for small businesses, infection control, HIPAA questions, service provision, etc. from the SBA, HHS, Dept. of Ed, and Dept. of Labor as well as telehealth resources.

The American Public Health Association recently published education fact sheets and tips on COVID-19. Resources include pdf fact sheets in multiple languages and videos for your use/reference.

We at AMTA, along with many of you, have been closely following the developments around COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Although the current risk (as stated by the Center for Disease Control) in North America remains low, it is constantly evolving and is of increasing concern. Please note the current risk assessment from the CDC (as of 3/5/2020).

AMTA and CBMT are excited to announce that on Tuesday March 3, 2020 Governor Ralph Northam signed into law HB 1562, which creates a music therapy license under the Board of Social Work, and establishes an Advisory Board on Music Therapy to assist the Board in matters concerning the music therapy license.​

The American Music Therapy Association and the Certification Board for Music Therapists are excited to announce that on Tuesday January 21, 2020 Governor Phil Murphy signed into law A2183, the “Music Therapist Licensing Act.” The bill creates a music therapy license under the newly-established State Board of Creative Arts and Activities Therapies.
