The unique goals of court-committed adults are being addressed in interesting ways by the team of music therapist Alison Etter and art therapist Jaimie Peterson in a forensic psychiatric hospital. AMTA and CBMT are excited to announce that, on May 27, 2016, Governor Malloy of Connecticut signed into law HB 5537. This legislation includes language stating that music therapy services can only be provided by those who hold the MT-BC credential.

Brigadier General Kathleen Cook convened an historic meeting on May 26, 2016, to explore the possibility of collaborations between the Air Force Bands and music therapy programs at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Langley Air Force Base, and Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

“The Same Sky Project,” was an “out of the box” keynote address for the two-day National Institutes of Health (NIH) summit, “Rehabilitation Research at NIH: Moving the Field Forward.” This production put music therapy on the radar of attendees and served as a catalyst for questions about research and reimbursement in music therapy and training of music therapists.

The AMTA Non-discrimination and Equal Opportunity Policy was approved by the Assembly of Delegates on November 12, 2015, demonstrating the commitment AMTA and its programs have to nondiscrimination and the promotion of equal opportunity.

The American Music Therapy Association welcomes three new Associate Editors to AMTA’s journals. Two newly created Associate Editor positions will focus on communications and dissemination of journal content, including outreach to both internal and external audiences for the many excellent articles published in the journals. Congratulations to the new Associate Editors joining the AMTA journals team.​

The American Music Therapy Association and the Certification Board for Music Therapists are excited to announce that, on April 26, 2016, Governor Fallin of Oklahoma signed into law HB 2820. This legislation creates a music therapy license under the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.

The music therapy community lost a friend and advocate on April 25, 2016. Remo Belli was a long time supporter of the music therapy profession and he will be missed.
