In a new and unique position, music therapist, Lisa Gallagher began a new post working with music therapists and art therapists as well as others affiliated with the Arts & Medicine Institute to conduct and publish research.

On March 7th and 8th of 2016, AMTA once again participated in Arts Advocacy Day as a national co-sponsor. This annual event in Washington, D.C., hosted by the Americans for the Arts, is the only national event that brings together a broad cross section of America’s cultural and civic organizations, along with hundreds of grassroots advocates from across the country.

Proposals are now being accepted for the 2016 AMTA Conference “Under the Canopy: The Profession of Music Therapy” at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio, November 9 to 13. Click on Attend a Conference and submit your proposal today! Please note separate forms are required for concurrent sessions and CMTE courses. Deadline for all proposal submissions is April 18, 2016.

Since 2005, AMTA and CBMT have collaborated on a State Recognition Operational Plan. The primary purpose of this plan is to get music therapy and the MT-BC credential recognized by individual states so that citizens can more easily access our services.The AMTA Government Relations staff and the CBMT Regulatory Affairs staff provide guidance and technical support to state task forces throughout the country as they work towards state recognition.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015. ESSA marks the first overhaul of the nation's main elementary and secondary education law since the No Child Left Behind Act in 2002. This bipartisan measure reauthorizes the nation’s national education law, the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

The AMTA office will close at 1:00 pm on December 18, 2015 for the winter holidays. The office will reopen on January 4, 2016. Happy holidays!
