The National Endowment for the Arts is leading a new task force to encourage research on how the arts help people reach their full potential at all stages of life. A white paper titled "The Arts and Human Development: Framing a National Research Agenda for the Arts, Lifelong Learning, and Individual Well-Being," examines the relationship between the arts and positive health and educational outcomes at various segments of the lifespan.

The Department of Health and Human Services announces the Health Care Innovation Challenge from the CMS Innovation Center, a new initiative designed to test creative ways to deliver high quality medical care and reduce costs across the country. The Challenge will award up to $1 billion in total grants to applicants who will implement the most compelling new ideas to deliver better health, improved care and lower costs to people enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP.

"I was able to get up in the morning smiling. Music therapy is what did it." Music therapy is increasingly used to treat a wide range of problems, from brain injury to aging to cystic fibrosis.
