The NEA Interagency Task Force on the Arts and Human Development, an alliance of 19 federal government departments, agencies, etc., is hosting a webinar focusing on music therapy. AMTA Member Recognition Awards are a great way to acknowledge outstanding members. Nominations are requested to recognize deserving members for their professional work, AMTA service, research and publications, etc. The due date for nominations is September 4th the Friday BEFORE Labor Day. Please mark your calendar and submit nominations, or remind others to submit their nominations to recognize deserving members.

The White House Conference on Aging will be held on July 13, 2015. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Medicare, Medicaid, and the Older Americans Act, as well as the 80th anniversary of Social Security. The 2015 White House Conference on Aging is an opportunity to recognize the importance of these key programs as well as to look ahead to the next decade. In November 2013, the AMTA Assembly of Delegates passed a revision of the Professional Competencies. This revision includes 3 new competencies as well as streamlined music foundation competencies. Due to the new competencies, the Assembly voted to make them effective on August 1, 2015. This allows academic programs and internship sites to update curriculum and documents. If it would be helpful to see the old & new side-by-side, you can find a comparison document in the AMTA member toolkit.
