Music Therapy License Created in Virginia
The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) are excited to announce that on Tuesday March 3, 2020 Governor Ralph Northam signed into law HB 1562. This bill creates a music therapy license under the Board of Social Work, and establishes an Advisory Board on Music Therapy to assist the Board in matters concerning the music therapy license.
Please help us congratulate the current co-chairs of the Virginia State Task Force, Tracy Bowdish and Shelby (Reynolds) Shrader, for their leadership in promoting state recognition efforts and advocating for this legislation; task force members Nicole Drozd, Maya Johnson, Melissa Owens, and Miriam Smith; all the professional and student music therapists in the state who attended Hill Day events, sent letters of support, and participated in advocacy efforts; and all the music therapists whose previous advocacy laid the foundation for this success.
