An Opening Session Like None Other

“The Same Sky Project”  from A Place to Be

Twelve music therapy clients from Northern Virginia, each with unique life challenges, take the stage in this 30-minute musical about being different, empathy, love, and MUSIC. Conceived by music therapist Tom Sweitzer and his team of therapeutic staff and students from his center “A Place To Be,” in Middleburg, Virginia, this touring production has been viewed by over 20,000 student audience members and has become a signature piece in the school system in Loudoun County, Virginia to teach others about diversity and acceptance.

Top Ways to Get Your Conference Activities Funded

  • Ask!  Many employers budget continuing education activities.  You never know until you inquire.
  • Apply for scholarships!  AMTA offers conference attendance scholarships for both professionals and students.  Many regions and other outside organizations offer similar scholarships.
  • Write a proposal!  Detail how this experience will impact your patient care. Don’t focus on why you want to go, focus on what you will bring back.  Link your organization’s knowledge requirements to the conference program.
  • Present! Conference presentations can be valuable exposure for businesses and your name in the program can be important validation for your music therapy program.
  • Highlight the  ROI (return on investment)!   Conference offers you a chance to improve your skills, learn new techniques, be a part of the emerging research body, and network with other music therapists in similar populations and settings.
