Education and Clinical Training Consultants

AMTA is seeking to hire two consultants to support the academic/education and clinical training functions of the association. Each consultant will be contracted for 5 hours per week, with one consultant focused on academic/education tasks and the other clinical training tasks. Five or more years of experience with academic programming is required for the academic/education consultant, and five or more years of experience with clinical training (specifically national roster internship programming) is required for the clinical training consultant.

Each consultant will serve as the main point of contact for their respective duties with APAC and AIAC, as well as with the broader music therapy community and external entities. The length of the consultancy is TBD, but we anticipate work lasting through at least the end of 2023. This position will be remote with flexible hours.

Duties for each consultant will include, but not be limited to: 

Academic/Education

  • Sending business to the Academic Program Approval Committee (APAC): New degree program applications, re-approval applications, requests for changing re-approval deadlines.
  • Updating the AMTA School Directory (generally and for three-year check-ups and re-approvals)
  • Responding to questions from faculty about education documents, internship guidelines, or situations with students.
  • Writing letters of support for faculty related to adding faculty, program in danger of closing.
  • Writing letters of congratulations for degree program anniversaries, faculty recognition.
  • Sending approval letters for new degree program approval, re-approval of degree program.
  • Notifying colleges and universities about the approval process for developing an MT degree program, providing letters of clarification regarding the Standards for Education and Clinical Training.
  • Responding to requests from colleges and universities for degree program applications and re-approval applications. Providing custom reports related to enrollment, and other pertinent background information. Notifying institutions of upcoming re-approval deadlines.
  • Assist in connecting college administrators with music therapists, usually faculty, to serve as consultants in developing the degree program curriculum/completing degree program application.

Clinical Training

  • Sending business to the Academic Internship Approval Committee (AIAC):  New National Roster Internship applications/exception requests /non-compliance reports. Assign numbers and track progress.
  • Updating the AMTA National Roster when internship directors submit updates to their programs.
  • Sending approval letters for new internship programs, change of internship director, supervising music therapists, program status changes. Archive documents
  • Responding to requests for National Roster Internship applications/change of ID instructions/ supervising music therapist/ how to update program information, contact info for committee reps, etc.
  • Answering questions about National Roster Guidelines and University Affiliated Internship Guidelines, process for applying for UA or NR internship program, situations with interns, problem solve with APAC/AIAC as needed, etc.
  • Answering questions from interns.
  • Respond to request from interns for the New Professional Packet
  • Send out weekly updates to educators
  • Send out yearly survey to all National Roster Internships
  • Communicate with committee chairs/Co-chair, summarize and archive reports, communicate with AMTA Board of Directors.

The salary for these positions will be $40/hour. Applicants should refer to the AMTA Standards of Education and Clinical Training, the National Roster Internship Guidelines, and the Policies and Procedures for Academic Program Approval for more information on qualifications and tasks of the position. Applications will be accepted through 12/20/2022. Review of applications and interviews will begin immediately upon the closing date. Anticipated start date is January 02, 2023.
