Amanda Monterra, MMT, MT-BC has resigned as AMTA Speaker of the Assembly of Delegates stating that time commitments and obligations conflicted with serving as Speaker of the Assembly. The AMTA Board of Directors wholeheartedly supports her decision and is glad she will continue to serve the music therapy community through her work in the Mid-Atlantic Region as President-Elect and as an Assembly Delegate.  The Board accepted Mia Iliopoulos Krings, MM, CDP, MT-BC, to assume the role of Speaker of the Assembly effective August 27, 2024.

Mia is well prepared for the office. She is currently serving her second term on the Board of Directors, serves as the President of the Illinois Association for Music Therapy (IAMT) and is the Illinois Representative on the GLR Executive Board. She has previously served on regional conference planning committees and is a frequent presenter at conferences and surrounding Midwest universities on topics including harmonica protocols, various neurological disorders, hospice music therapy, and becoming a new professional. Mia is the Clinical Supervisor with Greater Chicago Music Therapy, Inc. which serves adults with dementia, neurodiversity and disabilities, various neurological disorders, and end of life care. There, she facilitates individual and group sessions, supervises team music therapists, practicum students, and interns, helps with new program development, and often presents about music therapy in the community. Mia's clinical work focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, such as dementia and Parkinson's disease, in addition to end-of-life care and other neurologic, vocal, and respiratory functionality.
