AMTA and NAACP Among Groups in Support of Federal Policing Policies

On June 1st, AMTA, and over 400 other disparate organizations including the NAACP and the Center for Reproductive Rights, signed on to the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights letter addressed to congressional leadership in support of the demand for actionable federal policing policies.  Federal reforms suggested within the letter include a wide range of policing issues including: use of force, police accountability, racial profiling, militarization, data collection, and training.

The Justice in Policing Act of 2020 was introduced by House and Senate democrats on June 8th.  Many of the legislative measures highlighted in the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights letter, are also included as a part of the proposed bill.

AMTA will be actively tracking and monitoring developments with the Justice in Policing Act of 2020 as a part of its federal advocacy portfolio.  As the bill moves forward through Congress, we will provide updates and additional information as appropriate.

For more information, please read the Washington Post article regarding this issue.
