Music Therapy Perspectives (MTP) seeks Editorial Team member.
The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) invites applicants for one open position as Associate Editor/Communications. Music Therapy Perspectives (MTP) (https://academic.oup.com/mtp) promotes the development of music therapy clinical practice through the dissemination of scholarly work that explores innovations in clinical benefits, implications, education, and training. MTP supports a vision of music therapy founded upon ethical and culturally responsive practices advancing social justice principles and serves as a resource and forum for music therapy clinicians, students, educators, and related professionals to engage in essential critical discourses. MTP publishes all forms of reports regarding music therapy practice including, but not limited to, clinically focused research reports, clinical portraits, case studies, educational research, and theoretical articles. The journal is published in partnership with Oxford University Press.
MTP’s objectives:
· Speak to the direct clinical and professional experiences of practicing music therapists, and in so doing advance the profession.
· Include information useful to music therapists, music therapy students, and professionals interested in the therapeutic uses of music.
· Address issues related to the supervision of music therapy students and the supervision of music therapists in both professional and advanced practice.
· Include articles addressing the education and training of music therapists.
· Address ethical concepts and issues as they pertain to music therapy education, training, research and professional practice.
Job Description for MTP Associate Editor-Communications
Working closely with the Lead Editor and Assistant Editor, the Associate Editor-Communications will serve a central role in communicating journal content to AMTA members through a variety of mediums and social media platforms. In addition, the Associate Editor-Communications will work with the Marketing Executive at Oxford University Press to enhance the interface between journal content and the broader community of scholars and consumers. The Associate Editor-Communications will aim to help music therapists and other healthcare professionals engage with the published journal content in unique and innovative ways that (a) fosters engagement between readers and authors, (b) provides greater transparency about how issues are compiled, and (c) cultivates interdisciplinary dialogue. These efforts are intended to drive traffic to the journals and expand the overall reach of the journal’s content. The Associate Editor-Communications will also meet several times during the year with the Associate Editors, Assistant Editor, and Lead Editor (via conference call) and attend periodic Editorial Board meetings.
Applicant Qualifications:
· Experience in scholarly writing and publication
· Active engagement and working knowledge of contemporary social media platforms
· Experience in an editorial role (blog, newsletter publication, journal editor, book editor, thesis/doctoral supervision, etc.)
· Excellent organizational skills
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to work in a team
· Desire and ability to dedicate up to 5 hours per week to Associate Editor-Communications responsibilities
Applicant Preferred Qualifications:
· Innovative and entrepreneurial thinking skills
· Experience in a journal review process as a reviewer or author
· Prior service on the journal’s Editorial Board
